Planescape: Torment.
Definitely my favorite amongst all other games before and since. The story is that strong. Nothing touches it because I don't believe anyone has tried as hard (except MGS, maybe). Perhaps Heavy Rain will since their actual focus is on story above all else.
"When I saw that teaser for the first time I almost faint. It was like: OMG! Nintendo finally nailed it! Am I dreaming?! A fuking Zelda game with such dark/serious atmosphere, no silly looking characters around and very focused in the action?"
There's your problem. Zelda was *never* dark or incredibly serious like a Shakespearian tragedy or something. Now that you're older and know the power of darker stories, you expect Macbeth from a series that's maintained its fame ...
"Playstations' have never had a face, this is what makes PS so great for me, i'm not bound to buying Mario or Master Chief for quality gaming."
As if it needs to be said, MS and Nintendo have plenty of quality games besides those featuring their mascots.
It's strange "gamers" find more fun bashing than finding reasons not to... like playing more games on those platforms you trash.
More than likely it wasn't an FPS since Rare doesn't want to make those. I'm far more willing to believe it was some avatar nonsense as Rare and MGS seem oddly fascinated with that kind of crap these days.
I would have at least held out for an HD version.
Should I be surprised?
I think it would be more surprising to see Versus with a T since it's supposed to be so "dark". But then again, not really.
I spoke very broadly about that first part since it concerned *every* country (not just Canada). Bottom line is the same. You just can't expect to get what another country gets. Hopefully something different but similar. They aren't willfully playing favorites.
And yes, that's specifically why Netflix doesn't go to other places, but that didn't stop hundreds of comments worth of complaints at the time. You say "it would make sense" like it's common knowledge, but most p...
"it IS supposed to be confusing"
So "I meant to do that" like the guy who spills his drink and tries not to be embarrassed about it.
Anyway, I wasn't saying he did it by accident, I was saying he did it badly.
Really. It's not any company's fault that different countries have different rules and regulations. It's a complex issue.
Remember back when people made a stink about MS's inability to bring Netflix to Canada? Guess what? Neither can Sony. They're not out to shaft you, it's just a matter of circumstances.
@Ultimate: The game came out in like March and you're saying this end-of-the-year DLC should have been on the disc? That's unreal.
It's not always gonna be the fault of 360 or a DVD9. Re-releases are an incredibly common way to drive sales at little cost to devs. And blu-ray does not make a game exempt from DLC. I would think there are enough exclusive PS3 games with DLC to prove it.
The writer is aware that the original version of the game was refused classification, right?
Sure, get angry at the devs instead of the real culprits.
It's true. The combat engine was terrible. The game got its acclaim through violence and gore.
The engine improved lots over time but it's never been a real contender to the feel and fluidity of stuff like Tekken or SF4. Even MK vs DC is still really stodgy and stiff.
The art looks cool. Except for some reason Sonya doesn't need pants anymore...? But bad art wasn't that franchise's problem.
My only hope is that this game is not in any way toned down by a console release. I wanted the "dark fantasy" Dragon Age to be it's match, but DA is bloody milquetoast compared to The Witcher. The language is foul, the locals are horny, and the morality is truly gray. The Witcher is not a series that needs to be censored.
I disagree. There's a difference between great gameplay and a great story. The game has all the Kojima innovation in the gameplay, but the story is just a mass of subplots and random bits of info compared to MGS.
Maybe it's awesome once you rebuild it into something neater. But as it's presented, it's a confusing tale confusingly told about the new protagonist no one cared about. I don't see how that's on par with the older game.
"Best Independent Game Fueled by Mountain Dew"?
Seriously?
Good to know there are others as jaded as I.
I'd want Dragon Age to win...but really only because it's a much better representation of the genre than Demon's Souls imo.
"anybody know who does the nominations?"
"Nominees for Spike TV’s 2009 “Video Game Awards” were determined by the VGA Advisory Council, made up of a group of the most well-respected experts in the industry of leading game media outlets such as GameTrailers.com, Game Informer, USA Today, Wired, Penny Arcade, GameSpot and IGN"

Perhaps they fall short, but very few of these indeed are actually bad games.
Although I have to agree with a lot of points...
MGS2 imo set the stage for a stupidly complex story. I do not mind complexity, I mind complexity for the sake of it. The entire thing is a shambles of misinformation by the end especially compared to it's narratively tighter predecessor.
Deus Ex... This game imo was completely ruined. Nowhere near the scope of the first with nowh...
*sigh*
So are we going to get articles for every game that "should have" got a nomination?
Those defending the game for having female nudity... Where are they now? Double standards much?
